I absolutely LOVE the Sew Mama Sew giveaway days!!! This year, I was so worried I wouldn't be able to find the time to visit the hundreds of blogs to enter their great giveaways.
...But what do you know.... we got hit with a RECORD-BREAKING BLIZZARD!
It made international news, so some of you may have heard of it. I live in Lambton County, Ontario Canada. The closest large city in Lambton County is Sarnia (on the Michigan border). The storm started on Sunday night, and finally subsided Wednesday. A state of emergency was called, and the Canadian Army was brought in to help evacuate stranded motorists on our major highway and the country roads. It was very cool to see and hear rescue choppers and airplanes overhead, bringing people to safety. Many people were stranded in an area spanning 100 km's from east to west, many of whom stayed in our small community. It was an interesting 3 days of being snowed in, which gave me LOTS of time for blog surfing! I made it through the whole list, and entered millions of giveaways(at least it seems like millions!). I hope you were able to make it through the list too!
I am genuinely honoured that so many of you visited my little blog and commented! When the giveaway started, I had 91 followers. I now have 125!!!! Wow!!! I'm so happy to have 34 new friends!!!

Welcome to the missbossypants giveaway!!!!!

This day could not have come at a better time! 2 weeks ago, I had my one year blogiversary. I wanted to comemorate the occasion by doing a giveaway, but didn't know what to give away, or how I would execute the whole thing. THEN... I found out Sew, Mama, Sew was going to do their twice yearly giveaway!!!

When thinking and thinking and thinking.....and thinking....... of what to give away, I was thinking I should pay homage to my favourite colour: TURQUOISE

Yeah, I know, it's a really popular colour right now, so I feel the need to clarify that I liked it before it was "in". So n.o.t. a follower! lol, just had to throw that one out there. okay, so....... yeah, let's get on with the goods....

Giveaway day is coming!!!

How convenient!!! I was trying to think of a giveaway to do to comemorate my 1 year blogiversary, when I came across the Sew, Mama, Sew blogpost, announcing their next giveaway day!!!

On Monday, December 13th, come back here to see what I've got up my sleeve! I'll be having TWO GIVEAWAYS!!! I'll have something from the missbossypants sewing room, as well as something from my sister-in-law's Etsy shop: Avery's Garden!!! Check out her shop here and have a little look around!

My belated Blogiversary

I suck. I can't keep track of other people's anniversaries (well at least I sent a facebook message to my bestie at 11:55pm on the day of her 13th wedding anniversary), let alone one of mine I should have remembered!!!



Saturday was my Blogiversary!!!! Yep, one whole year of you guys reading up on what's going on in my sweatshop (aka basement sewing room), and what my crazy family has been up to.

I really appreciate all of you who read, stalk, and even leave a comment or two. It's flattering to know that people actually read this crazy blog (although it's not really all that hard - I don't blog as much as I should!)

It's been one year..... 91 followers and about 60 posts (there may be one or two in there that never got posted though - I may have been too embarrassed of the picture, or the content - I am known to get on the computer after a good night with a few drinks in me!)

People usually do something to comemorate special days like these.... I'm just thinking of doing a little giveaway. Ok, keep that under your hat, and keep an eye out for a post from me announcing a giveaway.

It'll be a little after the fact, but, hey, it already is!

SewMamaSew Giveaway winner

Ok, another mention of the SewMama Sew giveaway day....

The winner of my giveaway was Rachael from A Little Bit of Everything. Rachael's blog has the same background as mine! I think it was meant to be, definitely destiny that she would be the winner! She lives in Christchurch, New Zealand, so my goodies sure went for a voyage!

The prizes arrived, and she blogged about them here (lucky girl, she won another giveaway as well!)

I'M A WEINER!!! um, er, I mean WINNER!!!

Remember the SewMamaSew Giveaway day in May? I sure do - and so does my blog! My hitcounter went THROUGH THE ROOF that day. It sure was fun visiting all the other 5 million blogs and entering their giveaways - it took me 3 days to get through them all!

Now, I'm not really the luckiest person around when it comes to giveaways. I won a crockpot once from our local health unit - that was pretty cool - but other than that, the winning just isn't in me (if only it was - I'd play the lottery!)
Well, time to buy a lottery ticket..... I WON SOMETHING!!! I am the lucky recipient of these gorgeous lovelies from Paloma at Three Kitchen Fairies.

A super-cute pincushion!!! This is not the exact one I got, but it's similar. Mine has a couple different fabrics, a red flower, and different buttons.

And .pdf embroidery patterns!!! These cupcakes are so cute! I've never done embroidery before, but, hey, it can't be that hard, right? (tee hee, like I need another hobby!) I can just imagine one of these cupcakes on the front of a cute little dress for my niece (who has an unofficial nickname of "cupcake" from all the Gymboree her mom dressed her in!!!)

A little side note for all of you: Mac and I are off and away this weekend to his cousin's wedding. I'm "coming out" as a sewist this weekend - I'm planning on wearing a dress that I MADE - IN PUBLIC!!! Ok, I shouldn't be so worried - I've worn a few of my creations lately in public, just not at such an important event. It'll be fine - the seams won't rip and the garment won't fall off me on the dancefloor..... I hope.

May Giveaway Day

Waaaaaay back in the fall of 2009, I was introduced to sewing blogs, etsy.com, tutorials, and overall crafty goodness. Since then, I've been OBSESSED!!!

One of the great blogs I stumbled upon was Sew, Mama, Sew!. They have a blog with wonderful sewing ideas and instructions, a fabric shop, and forums. I love that they have "theme" months, with regular content that is always really interesting and a great source of information. They've had Bag Month, Hand Sewing Month, Kids Clothes Month, etc. There's always something for everyone!
I must be honest though.... what really sucked me in were the giveaways!
I was soooo lucky to win "Absolutely A line", a sewing book from Sew, Mama, Sew during their Handmade Holidays month. I'm not generally a very lucky person, so when I got the winning e-mail, I was ecstatic!
Quite often they'll have giveaways that have to do with their current theme, as well as a pretty regular FFF (Free Fabric Friday). What's really exciting is: they also have a one-day GIVEAWAY EXTRAVAGANZA!!! The site hosts links to blogs and shops all over the world who are hosting giveaways. It was one of the ways I subscribed to 50,000 blogs in my blog reader - they were all just so fun! I signed up on a MILLION websites for a chance to win their homemade goodness. There are things ranging from homemade articles, to supplies to make your own homemade items. I love seeing what other people are making, and having a chance to win their creations! Handmade is always more fun because it's not mass produced, and just seems more special!

Let's get to the point here...... since last fall, I have become a self-taught sewist, with help from great websites like Sew, Mama, Sew. And to show my gratitude to all my fellow bloggers (and readers) out there, I am joining the May Giveaway Day! It will be held on May 17th, 2010.
