Why the name missbossypants, you ask? Well, it goes back to my roots.... my maiden name is Bos - a good old dutch name. I've been accused of being a little bit bossy in nature, and I'm not about to dispute the fact! I sometimes tell people my crafty "alter ego" is a tribute to my daughter, who is a lot like her mother in the bossy characteristic! Thanks for visiting missbossypants! Giveaway day!!!

****THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED****
I thank all of you for your lovely comments!!!
Stay tuned for the winner post!

Welcome to the missbossypants giveaway!!!!!

This day could not have come at a better time! 2 weeks ago, I had my one year blogiversary. I wanted to comemorate the occasion by doing a giveaway, but didn't know what to give away, or how I would execute the whole thing. THEN... I found out Sew, Mama, Sew was going to do their twice yearly giveaway!!!

When thinking and thinking and thinking.....and thinking....... of what to give away, I was thinking I should pay homage to my favourite colour: TURQUOISE

Yeah, I know, it's a really popular colour right now, so I feel the need to clarify that I liked it before it was "in". So n.o.t. a follower! lol, just had to throw that one out there. okay, so....... yeah, let's get on with the goods....

To one of you lucky readers, you'll win 3 missbossypants creations:
The cup cozy protects your hands from hot drinks, insulates your drink from getting cold, AND makes a statement!!! Quilter's cotton one one side, turquoise flannel on the other, and fastened by velcro.

This little birdie would love to grace your Christmas tree! It has a fabric-covered button at the neck and a clear thread for hanging on that perfect branch.

Ok, ok, you caught me, I don't have the third prize made just yet, but imagine one of these felt dahlia pins in turquoise, and there you have it!!! It will be made this week, and maybe I'll even be able to photograph it and get it on this post in time before the giveaway ends! (this picture is of the pins I made for my son's pre-school teachers at the end of the "school year" last June - they loved their teacher gifts!)

So, I bet you guys are just waiting to find out how you can win the loot.... Ok, here are the rules...

1. Leave a comment below, telling me what your favourite colour is.

2. If you are a follower of my blog, congratulations, you get one more entry!!!! Please leave a message telling me you follow this crazy hairbrained blog!

The giveaway will be open until this friday at noon, EST. I'll use the online random number picker doo-hicky to pick the winner. PLEASE MAKE SURE I CAN CONTACT YOU!!! If your e-mail is not public in your profile, please leave your contact info at the end of your comment.

If you are the winner, I will contact you by e-mail to get your mailing address. I will ship internationally. All entrants from all corners of the world are welcome! The prize will be sent out on Monday, December 20th (provided I have been able to reach you to get your home address).

Once you're done entering this giveaway, visit the main listing of all giveaways on the Sew, Mama, Sew Blog. Good luck, and happy blog surfing!

missbossypants crafts now at UP THE STREET!

I am SO EXCITED! I was a vendor at the Bellies, Babies and Beyond show this past spring, and did some great networking. I met a scrapbooking supplies vendor who ran her own online store called UP THE STREET. Tara's creations are beautiful! She uses the newest, cutting-edge supplies and techniques, and sells them too!

Tara told me in the spring that she would soon be opening an actual bricks and mortar store, and was interested in selling some of my products on consignment. I immediately agreed. Are you kidding me!?! Of course I would LOVE to have my products showcased in an actual store, let alone one full of beautiful things!

Well, that store has been built and is now open. It is GORGEOUS!!! It is located in an historic building at the main crossroads in Strathroy (my hometown!). This building was originally one of the Hotels in town, back when people travelled by stagecoach and steam train. It eventually morphed into The Derby Inn... home of Strathroy's Rock & Roll. It was the bar in town that had live bands, cold beer, dirty old men, equally dirty carpet, and equally old furniture. It was much loved, and finally closed down about 2 years ago. The facade had been horrendously ruined with porthole-style windows with 70's style tinted and textured glass, as well as a brick veneer on the exterior walls. It was not a pretty sight. It was believed that the place was so rundown, it would be next to impossible to renovate and reuse the building. It was bought by a local antique and art dealer/picture framer who had the vision to revitalize this old building.

Here's how Tara's portion of the building looks now:

Its neat, clean lines are beautiful, while the architecture and form of the original building was retained. It seems to have been a successful revitalization project for both the building owner, as well as the Municipality (funds were provided by the Town to aid in the revitalization of this downtown building).

Tara's store is bright and attractive, and has a million things to look at (and purchase!)

Scrapbooking supplies are intermingled with antiques, old-fashioned sweets and products made from vintage supplies. Glassware is soon to be added to the great mix of products!

The most exciting part.... (for me, anyways!)..... I dropped off my wares today, and they will be set out in the store, ready for purchase as early as tomorrow!!! That's right, you can now stroll downtown Strathroy, and purchase some missbossypants goodies! Some items that will be available at UP THE STREET include: Flaxseed Ouchie Bags, Women's scarves, Kid's aprons, Baby Bibs, and Felt Food! Cup Cozies will be added soon, once I can add more to my inventory (i.e. pump out some more in my basement "sweat shop").
UP THE STREET is located at 2 Front St. West, Strathroy, and here online.

Stop by, check out the store, and tell Tara I sent you!

SewMamaSew Giveaway winner

Ok, another mention of the SewMama Sew giveaway day....

The winner of my giveaway was Rachael from A Little Bit of Everything. Rachael's blog has the same background as mine! I think it was meant to be, definitely destiny that she would be the winner! She lives in Christchurch, New Zealand, so my goodies sure went for a voyage!

The prizes arrived, and she blogged about them here (lucky girl, she won another giveaway as well!)

Here's some pics of the loot:

The ruffly apron, cup cozy and the felt breakfast set all together. The ruffly thing on the bottom left side is a ruffle card I made.

The apron

The felt breakfast set

The "Wilds of Canada" cup cozy

...and the reverse side of it. I love this fabric, it's so much fun!

Glad to hear that Rachael is enjoying her goodies on the other side of the world!

missbossypants online market

After many requests to sell my products online, I'm finally listing here on my blog. I have not installed official shopping software or anything, so there is no "shopping cart" to review your order. What I've planned, at least for the time being, is to use paypal billing. Peruse my listings here, decide what you'd like to order, then e-mail me at: sonya(dot)missbossypants(at)gmail(dot)com. I will put together a paypal invoice and e-mail it to you. For this process, you must have a paypal account. It costs nothing to register, and you can use your credit card to process all payments. Of course, if you are local, I will accept cash upon delivery as well.

I can deliver the goodies in the Strathroy/Watford/Alvinston/Arkona/Kerwood/Wyoming/Petrolia
and surrounding areas. If shipping is required, I will get a shipping quote and let you know how much it will cost before creating a bill.

To order a missbossypants item, please send an e-mail with the following information:
*Item name
*Number of items ordered
*Colour/flavour/theme

More stain protection!

In my previous post, I talked about some stain protection for little cooks. The stains were, for the most part, going to be imaginary ones.

This time, I promise some protection from REAL stains!

Introducing...... some pretty cool bibs!

For the upcoming Bellies, Babies and Beyond Baby Expo, I wanted to create things that were specifically for babies and kids. Sorry mommas, no cup cozies offered at this show (didn't have time to whip some up!)

These bibs are all reversible, some have appliques on the reverse side, and all are very absorbent! Perfect for drool, spit, food, juice, whatever your kiddo can spill on it!

Bibs are priced at a very economical $5. I hope I sell out!

Swap goodies from me!

Remember the lovely things I received all the way from Australia? I posted about them here. I made some things for my swap partner in North Carolina, USA, but couldn't post about them until I was sure she received them. It's actually been a while since she replied, but, you know, life gets busy..... and finally here I am, blogging about it.
I had the name and address of my swap partner, but no e-mail or blog address, so I really didn't know much about her. I thought if I created something child-friendly, but she had no younger kids, it would go unused. So, without any clues as to what I should make, I set to creating:

I LOVE aprons, they are so cute (and so needed, in my case!). I had seen many variations of the ruffled apron, so I thought I'd try it out. This black and white fabric has been used and used (perhaps over used?) for so many projects, but I just love the combination!

I continued the theme with a set of coasters, and included one of my "famous" cup cozies (ina patriotic red, white and blue with stars for the American).

And the card i created from my scrap bin:

It turns out that she lives 30 minutes away from where we will be vacationing this August. What a small world.

Here's her reply to me after she received my package:

Sonya Thank you so much for your gift. It was a wonderful suprise. I have already been reading your blog. Guess my delight to find out I was the one who was matched with you. You have spoiled me beyond belief. It's hard to tell which one is my favorite. The apron is sooo cute. I have already put the coasters to use and will use the cup cozy soon.
Please let me know when you head down my way. I would love to meet you. You will only be about 30 miles from me.
thanks again
Pam

I'm so glad she enjoyed what I sent her! I'd like to sign up for another swap again, but not until I've got the craft fair stock and displays up and running. I just love receiving creations from people all over the world. It's a nice change to see other people's work and see other fabrics than what's in my own stash!

Off to create more craft show stock..... stay tuned for pics and listings of my new creations!

Great new etsy store!

My sister-in-law (and fellow craft show vendor) has opened her own etsy shop. Krista makes really cute hair clips, and she has been known to make the odd tutu as well! Check out her offerings on etsy here.

She's been a busy girl today - she set up a Facebook page for us to show off our crafty wares and to announce what is new. We are planning on some craft shows this year, so watch for some upcoming announcements!

missbossypants workshop is buzzing for Christmas!

Cup Cozies, aprons, ouchie bags, tag lovey blankets and coasters aplenty!!!

Some are for orders, others gifts, and some, well, just because I'm addicted, that's why!!!

I'm still taking orders for those who are looking for stocking stuffers, teacher and neighbour gifts, or just a special treat for yourself!

I've never officially listed items and pricing before, as it was always just by word of mouth, and photo albums on Facebook. I'll put up some pics and pricing here for all of you to see:

Cup Cozies

These are a stylish way to protect your hands from hot takeout cups, and insulate your drink, thus keeping it hot longer! Never forget which cup is yours! Express your individuality with various prints and colours. Some cozies are reversible too! Keep a cozy in your purse or console of your car so it's always ready to use. These babies are an affordable $3 each. Hurry to get them at this price, as I may be breaking into the wholesale market, at which point I may have to raise my prices! (but then you may be able to get them at cool coffee shops around Lambton County and Strathroy too!) Hoping that will come to fruition after the crazy holiday season, but there's still lots of planning to do!

Flaxseed Ouchie Bags

Reusable, nontoxic, eco friendly, hypoallergenic....

These flaxseed filled packs are a natural hot and cold pack for kids and adults!
Hot/Cold packs can be stored in the freezer, a great alternative to frozen peas!
Flexible when frozen, snuggly when heated in the microwave.
Microwave in increments of 15 seconds to find the perfect temperature for you.

Why Flaxseed for a filler?
Flaxseed contains 30-40% of flaxseed oil, which remains inside the seed. When the seeds are heated, the soft shell of the
seed allows for moisture to be absorbed. Then as the seeds cool, a moist heat is released. Flaxseed’s unique thermal and oil content allow for it to heat quickly and retain heat for 30-45 min. making it an ideal heating product. It will not crack, weighs less than rice and adjusts comfortably to the contours of the body. Cheap fillers such as rice or wheat tend to lose their ability to
retain water after repeated use. If they dry out, they are more likely to become scorched. They also tend to have a "food odor" when heated. STORE YOUR OUCHIE BAGS IN A ZIPLOC BAG IN THE FREEZER TO PREVENT RANCID FLAXSEED.

Uses:
Insect Bites Tummy aches Earaches Menstrual cramping Bed warmer Bruises Headaches Fevers Labour pains, etc....

All ouchie bags have at least one side of cozy, warm fabric such as flannel to be soft and cozy against your skin.

Small Ouchie bag - measures approximately 6" x 6" (1 square section) $4 each
Medium Ouchie bag - 2 sections long $6 each
Large Ouchie bag - 3 sections long $8 each

Also available are plain ouchie bags, with a separate washable cover. Please contact me for pricing.

Applique shirts

Pricing:
Infant Sets $10
Children's t shirts $13
Children's long sleve t shirts $15

I am selling off the shirts I have already in stock, and have cut off orders for Christmas because there's such little time left!

Pictures and sizing of each shirt will be uploaded at a later time (probably tonight).
